Passion

Have You Ever Worked and Lost All Track of Time?

Work. My mom would tell us kids while we were doing chores - "That's why they call it work. If it was fun, we'd have to call it something else."

Most adults have heard the term "punch a clock". For those younger and possibly unfamiliar with the term, this refers to the old manufacturing workplaces where your time of arrival and departure were stamped or recorded on a card. To do this,  the employee would place the card into the machine and push a button or pull on an attached lever. This was in conjuncture with a clock where the time was stamped down.

It seems rare that adults truly LOVE their job. Many adults simply work their job to pay the bills of the household and provide for their family. 8AM start, 5PM can't get here soon enough, right?. They celebrate "Hump Day" or Wednesday as it signifies the accomplishment of getting halfway through the week.

"Is it Friday yet?"

"Who's got a "case of the Mondays'"?

Imagine a job where you were excited to start on Monday. Think about a job where time flew by without even thinking about it.

Seem rare? Yes.

Think about it - what if you could get paid to do anything you wanted to do? What would you do?

Ok, you have to do something. Have you ever been working on something that you got really excited about? One of those projects, either at home or at work, where you start to dive in and focus, losing all track of time? I can relate to these experiences on occasion.

The Perfect “Job”

Developing a passion is a challenge. But when something right comes along, it can consume you. It can monopolize all of your time, energy, and financial resources. But seeing the fruits of that labor is truly rewarding.

People can go through their whole life and not find one. There can be a number of them found during your lifetime at different stages. They can change just as you do.

With these, there is no "Monday". A new week starts and you're excited to get back into things, to see what's next along the journey.

I challenge all of you to find a passion and explore where it goes. Throughout one's life, the "job" may get in the way. Some of us are only lucky enough to be paid to work on their passion to make a living.

Finding A Passion…

Now it would be easy enough to get paid to party all the time, or be a vacation critic. So here's the catch. I strongly suggest the passion have a few basic guidelines/borders.

First, it has to abide by the laws of our society. For someone who is passionate about fraudulent activity, sorry - find something new.

Second, this passion absolutely has to be altruistic. (I had to look up the word - at first I was thinking "others-centric".) It is defined as "showing a disinterested and selfless concern for the well being of others". What efforts are worth putting forth if it's not to help others? My passion lies in my personal mission statement - "to inspire others around me by my words and actions to be their very best". If there were no one to propel forward, what good would I be doing?

Within our communities, we can all contribute to help each other forward. You might not be surprised to find that if we together strive towards this goal, we as communities will fit together to move forward like a finely tuned machine.

Search. Think. Do some soul searching. Find that passion. It will provide tge way for finding life's purpose.

Time to grind, folks.
